ELMHURST TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) A community in Lackawanna County is celebrating a newly rebuilt bridge.
County leaders cut the ribbon on the new G-C Smith Road bridge Tuesday morning in Elmhurst Township.
Over the last few months, contractors have rebuilt the bridge because it was severely undersized.
The bridge is the only access point for several homes — as well as the Elmhurst Township Sewer Authority.
Richard Miller, the Executive Director of the Elmhurst Township Sewer Authority told Eyewitness News “All of our supplies come in through here, our sluge gets pumped out of here on a monthly basis. We have trucks coming in-and-out of here constantly”
The bridge replacement work cost more than $ 213,000.
Several other county- owned bridges are scheduled to be replaced next year.
