WEISSPORT, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — If 11-year-old Kahmij is anything like his sweet tooth, then he is one of the sweetest kids you’ll ever meet. That becomes obvious when he tells you what he wants most in the world.
“I want to be adopted [and have] someone to take care of me so they can love me,” says Kahmij.
Angela Phillips works one-on-one with Kahmij. She sees his eagerness for a family to call his own.
“Everytime I meet him he always asks ‘am I going to be adopted today?'” says Phillips, a case manager at The Village.
Jay Frey owns Chantilly Goods Ice Cream Shoppe in Weissport, Carbon County. In one afternoon, he shows the effect a positive adult influence can have on Kahmij as he dishes out tips for the perfect sundae.
After washing their hands, the pair gets down to business.
Kahmij goes for the classic tastes. He sets a foundation of vanilla and chocolate ice cream before coveringthe creation with hot fudge, melted marshmallow, and a cherry on top.
But after all that deliciousness, it’s time to get some exercise. Chantilly Goods offers surrey bike rides to help burn off the calories!
The outdoors are something Kahmij wants to explore with a future family.
“[I like to] go to the park so I can play on the swings, go outside, and get some fresh air,” says Kahmij.
“I think that is just going to be reinforcement to him,” says Phillips. “To say ‘hey, somebody really cares about me.'”
