CENTER VALLEY, LEHIGH COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Some people are just born with the need for speed. That’s been the life passion of 19-year-old Jay, who has a dream to hit the race track some day in a car he built himself.
But he pictures accomplishing his dream with a forever family by his side.
Jay has worked on cars since he was young.
“I grew up around racing and tinkering with a bunch of stuff,” says Jay.
But before he can cross the finish line, Jay is getting a look at all the work that goes into a winning car. He’s spending some time working with a racing pro on an actual Volkswagen GTI race car.
The car is raced and maintained by Josh Pachauus, owner of Nothing Leaves Stock in Center Valley, Lehigh County.
Pachauus is teaching some tricks of the trade that Jay can use on his own car someday.
“I actually have a goal to become a driver at some point,” says Jay. “I’m planning on trying to find a 70’s Roadrunner and restore it to drag quality.”
Jay is looking for a permanent connection with a family to support him and that passion for racing.
“Knowing that someone is there supporting me — supporting me in the career I chose — would be the best thing ever,” says Jay.
Jay just graduated from a customer service program in August and he would love to go back to school and study auto-body work.
But he’s learning plenty of tips from Pachauus as they spend an afternoon dismantling the front end of the car and checking the transmission fluid.
They’re lessons Jay will have to know as he throttles full speed towards that race day dream he keeps in the forefront of his mind.
“Standing there with people I care about,” says Jay. “With my trophy.”
