HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — People living in two Luzerne County neighborhoods say they heard gunshots ring out over the weekend. Two separate cases, but shared safety concerns.
One happened in the middle of the night and was caught on camera.
On Goeringer Avenue in the “Iona Place” section of Hanover Township, gunfire erupted early Saturday morning. Shots were also fired from a car in another neighborhood about a half-mile from there Sunday night. Nobody was injured, but the neighbors are on edge.
“It’s scary, very scary, because what if one of us got hit? What if it came through the window? I mean anything could have happened. It’s very scary,” Goeringer Avenue resident Jeannine Dane said.
Dane and her two teenage sons could not believe what was happening around 2 a.m., Saturday morning in front of their home on Goeringer Avenue in Hanover Township. They heard what sounded like gunshots, and checked a home security camera.
“We checked the camera, we saw a white car come down and you just hear boom, boom, boom, boom and we were like ‘that was gunshots’. That was not fireworks, because we’re so used to seeing and hearing fireworks. That was gunshots,” Dane said.
“I was looking at my computer, playing games, all of a sudden boom, boom, boom. Look out the window in a panic. Obviously, it was terrifying,” explained Jeannine’s son Gavin.
Hanover Township Police told Eyewitness News they are also looking into another report of shots fired. The shots were allegedly fired from a white car near West Division and Woodbury Streets in the Lee Park section of the township. This incident took place around 7 p.m., Sunday. Detectives say they are trying to determine if the shootings are connected. For the Dane family, all of this is just too close for comfort.
“This is a nice little neighborhood. We all know each other, it’s just very peaceful. No trouble really, just little things here and there, but nothing, nothing like this in the neighborhood for this to happen it’s a shame,” said Dane.
Again, nobody was injured in either shot-fired incident.
Hanover Township Police tell Eyewitness News, they are not sure if the shootings are connected. If you have any information you’re urged to call Hanover Township Police Department at 570-825-1254.
