(WBRE/WYOU-TV) A celebration of African heritage was held, Friday, in Lackawanna County. Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine hosted a diaspora cultural bazaar in the lobby of the school.
Participants made pillowcases, head wraps, and beaded necklaces. And were taught traditional African dances. They also learned about different African countries and their specific cultures.
Dr. Vicki T. Sapp, Director of Student Engagement, Diversity, and Inclusion and Assistant Professor at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine explains “One thing we all have in common is the appreciation of our culture, and so the music, the dance, the food, and every culture that exists”.
“It’s a way of making sure that we recognize, celebrate and appreciate the differences from the different regions of Africa,” Said Martin Lacayo – Manager Of Student Engagement, Diversity, And Inclusion
