2018 Children’s Miracle Network Luncheon

Monday marks the start of a very special journey for a group of kids from northeastern and central Pennsylvania.  The 2018 Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger Miracle Kids were introduced at a luncheon in Danville.

The children, who have overcome medical obstacles, will now have the opportunity to share their stories with the world. “Ranging from kids who were born prematurely, to children who have successfully or continue to battle cancer, kids that have been in serious traumatic accidents, so a whole host of children here today with a whole range of medical conditions,” explains Dr. Paul Bellino, the Chair of Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger.

The Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger hosted a luncheon at the Pine Barn Inn in Danville to introduce the kids and their families.  The organization raises funds to provide equipment, programs and services for patients specifically at Janet Weiss Children’s Hospital.  Many of which would not be possible without CMN money, according to Dr. Bellino, as the children’s hospital competes with all of the programs within the hospital system.  The doctor says “we have dreams and aspirations that we want to be able to bring to the children of our communities, special medical devices, special programs, educational things, and it’s hard sometimes to put those things up against other equipment and other things that are needed in other places in the hospital.”

Monday PA Live! co-hosts Dave Kuharchik and Brittany Sweeney had the opportunity to meet the Miracle Kids at the luncheon. Dave addressed the crowd, thanking them for inviting WYOU to be a part of the fundraising effort for decades.  That effort wraps up every year with a celebration weekend telethon in June.  “The generosity of the people of our community is evident year, after year, after year, so hopefully we can do as good as we did last year, maybe a little bit better,” adds Dr. Bellino.

CMN funding is also spent outside of the hospital on things like camps and educational programs.  This year’s Celebration Weekend takes place June 2nd and 3rd on WYOU.
