Harrisburg, Dauphin County, (WBRE/WYOU) The 101st Pennsylvania Farm Show is underway in Harrisburg. The show is the largest indoor agricultural indoor expo in the US.
From the field to the farm, to the table, the Pennsylvania Farm Show has all this and more under one roof.
“Oh! What don’t I love about the farm show,” says Troops to Tractors Coordinator Mimi Thomas-Booker.
Everyday of the 9 day long event in Harrisburg, the farm show has a theme. Thursday focused on honoring Veterans and showcasing career opportunities after their service.
With the department of agriculture they have several programs that are right in a Veterans niche to be part of.
Others find agriculture at a young age. Allison and Hannah, two best friends. Stiff competition as their cows Peaches and Glamor go head to head to win a blue ribbon.
“You have to like wash them, rinse them and pickup their bedding,” says Allison.
“you have to wash them and feed them and make sure they are home,” says Hanna.
The key to a prize winning cow from Hannah and Allison is brushing her, just like brushing hair.
A group from Northumberland County has a prize winning breakfast made from a secret recipe.
“The potato donuts is a popular item at the farm show and we can’t reveal what the secret is but there is a secret recipe,” says Rahn Troutman, the Pennsylvania Co-Op Potato growers.
To wash the sugar down, try a Pennsylvania made drink.
“Depending on if you have the sugar or the plain, I probably would suggest either a fruit wine or a Niagara,” said Jennifer Eckinger from the PA Winery Association.
The event is going on at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, it runs from 8am to 9pm Thrusday and Friday, Saturday from 8am to 1pm. For more information go to
