As part of our NEPA’s Children First on-going Campaign, we know that when cafeterias close for the summer, kids lose access to meals they depend on and parents are left struggling to provide.
We can’t let kids go up to 90 days without reliable food.
A lack of reliable nutrition during the summer months takes a major toll on children. Kids who struggle with hunger are more likely to experience “summer slide”, forgetting what they learned and starting the next school year months behind their more affluent peers.
Starting June 16th , WBRE 28 & WYOU 22 along with CEO/Weinberg Food Bank and our sponsors are embarking on a 6-week campaign to make sure our local area children have enough food.
We are looking for partners to help create a “Hunger Free Summer” for kids.
The CEO/Weinberg Food Bank provides food assistance to faith-based and 501(c)3 non-profit community organizations to distribute to needy families.
The food bank works to reduce hunger and promote proper nutrition in addition to preventing food waste. The CEO/Weinberg Food Bank serves the needy families and children in four counties in northeast Pennsylvania: Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna, and Wyoming.
On June 21, and every Wednesday through July 26th (6-weeks), WBRE 28 & WYOU 22 Eyewitness News and PA Live! will showcase “Hunger Free Summer Wednesdays” with stories, segments and live reports on the need to feed our local children. We encourage our viewers to help us by donating monetarily to CEO/Weinberg, allowing them to purchase the specific nutritional food items.
