(WBRE/WYOU-TV) America’s oldest brewery is celebrating a big birthday this year.
Yuengling is 190 years old.
But behind the scenes — you’ll find something unique.
As Eyewitness News Reporter Rachael Espaillat tells us — its women paving the way for Yuengling now.
Diane sabal says Yuengling has been her number one choice in beer for the last decade. So when she got the chance to tour the brewery she couldn’t pass it up.
“We thought, how awesome would that be to actually go visit and find out more about the Yuengling heritage,” Said Diane Sabal, from Maryland.
Little did Sabal know, D.G. Yuengling and Son Inc. is gearing up to celebrate 190 years of serving craft beer. The brewery is putting out limited edition commemorative cans, limited edition beers and giving out sweepstakes prizes. On top of that, they are hosting events like a summer concert and celebrating a first ever, “America’s Oldest Brewery Day in April. Debbie Yuengling, a 6th generation brewer says they want to remember their ancestors who paved the way since the beginning in 1829.
“We cherish a lot of what they have done. And hopefully, they are very proud of where this company has grown. To be six generations, and all women, all female now currently involved in the brewery is something that is very iconic. Very unique to the industry” Said Debbie Yuengling, 6th Generation Brewer.
Yuengling is distributed in 22 states across the country and was originally called Eagle brewery
“It’s a beer that’s loved by many people all over the country but they actually had to overcome many obstacles in history to make it to the, to make it to the 190th year celebration.”
Overcoming things like the prohibition by selling ice cream, surviving wars, and the great depression. The family-owned company says they cannot wait to celebrate many more years to come.
“We’re so excited for the 190th. We can’t even imagine what 200 years is going to look like” Noted Debbie Yuengling, 6th Generation Brewer.
