Baby Café in Muncy
Expecting, new or experienced mothers are encouraged to join us at Baby Café from 5:30 to 6:30 pm on Mondays, August 3, 17 and 31 at First United Methodist Church, Muncy. This group discussion gives moms an opportunity to talk with other moms about their pregnancy and after birth experiences in a safe and relaxed, child-friendly environment. A board-certified lactation consultant will facilitate the group. Exchange tips about breastfeeding, receive breastfeeding support and discuss parenting concerns with other moms. Risk for osteoporosis increases with age, menopause, inactivity and lifestyle choices or inherited tendencies. A quick and painless ultrasound heel screening to measure bone density level will be offered from 11 am to 3:30 pm at The LifeCenter at the Williamsport YMCA. The cost is $20. Safe Sitter Program
Susquehanna Health’s LifeCenter is a Registered Safe Sitter® Teaching Site, offering a comprehensive babysitting training program that teaches life and safety skills to young teens ages 11 and up! This one-day program will be offered from 9 am to 4:30 pm on Wednesday, August 12 or Tuesday, August 25 at The LifeCenter at the Williamsport YMCA. The program is provided through the collaboration of Susquehanna Health’s LifeCenter and Reproductive Health Center to teach teens everything they need to know to be safe when home alone, watching younger siblings or babysitting. The $30 fee for the Safe Sitter 1-day class includes The Official Safe Sitter® Babysitter’s Handbook. Scholarships are available based on need. Seating is very limited. Pregnancy to Puberty Program
Mothers often have questions about the health and safety of their children at various ages and stages of development. Susquehanna Health will offer tips and resources to help you raise healthy, safe, happy kids during the Pregnancy to Puberty program at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, August 12 at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center Education & Conference Center. A panel of experts including, Theresa Moff, CRNP, SH Pediatrics; Natalie McCullen, Certified Lactation Consultant, SH Birthplace; Kathy Swatkowski, Certified Nurse Midwife, SH OB/GYN and Chris Smith, Highway Safety Specialist, Community Traffic Safety Project, will provide important health information that all mothers should know. Buffy Basile, owner of EPIC Fitness by Buffy, will provide health and fitness tips for busy moms. Seating is limited and registration is required. A light dinner will be provided. Susquehanna Health’s LifeCenter will offer free hearing screenings provided by Susquehanna Health Audiology and free visions screenings provided by North Central Sight Services for all ages from 12 to 2 pm on Thursday, August 13 at The LifeCenter at Williamsport YMCA. AARP Driver Safety Refresher Course
A four-hour course for individuals who have attended the two-day, eight-hour AARP Driver Safety program and have proof that they attended the course will be held from 9 am to 1 pm on Tuesday, August 18 at The LifeCenter, Williamsport YMCA. Please preregister by calling the Lincoln Senior Center at 570-323-3096, Monday or Wednesday from 9:30 am to noon. Pre-payment of $15 for AARP members or $20 for non-members is required. Low-Cost Blood Screenings
Susquehanna Health will offer low-cost blood screenings at the Medical Plaza at Lock Haven, 610 High Street, from 6:30 to 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 26. These screenings provide important information that helps you to be proactive about your health. Participants must consult with their physician about what test(s) may be most beneficial for them. Cash, check or credit card payment is required at the time of service. Preregistration is required for these screenings. Kids in the Kitchen Healthy Eating Program
Eating right starts early. Children ages 4 to 12 accompanied by a parent/guardian are invited to participate in a free Kids in the Kitchen program planned for two separate sessions at 10 am or 11:30 am on Wednesday, August 26 at The LifeCenter, Williamsport YMCA. Children will prepare their own healthy snacks with instruction and deliciously fun recipes provided by Chef Tony Ecker from the Brickyard Restaurant & Ale House and Stonehouse Wood Fired Pizza & Pasteria. Participants will learn about MyPlate, a guide to building a healthy plate at mealtime, and practice ways to prepare their own healthy meal. The program encourages parents and children to bond over creating healthy food options and is provided in partnership with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield (formerly Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania). Pelvic Pain Support Group
A support group is available for women with chronic pelvic pain. This group is held on the fourth Thursday of the month and offers a positive and supportive environment where you can meet other women who live with endometriosis, interstitial cystitis and other pelvic pain conditions. This month’s meeting will be held at 6 pm on Thursday, August 27 at Costello Center Physical Therapy, Wenner Building, Divine Providence Hospital campus.
