Due to rain in the forecast on Saturday, October 3 the Riverfront Parks has rescheduled ChalkFest to Sunday, October 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
ChalkFest and Hydromania is a FREE event that celebrates children’s art and creativity while also providing education about nature, water and the environment. Children of all ages and ability are invited and will be given a box of sidewalk chalk and a designated space to draw.
The River Common will be filled with various activity tables and exhibits that promote both creativity with the Wilkes-Barre YMCA’s “Imagination Playground” and environmental education. Children will explore water’s physical and chemical properties and learn about water, watersheds, and the Susquehanna River and the importance of protecting our water from contamination.
Examine how groundwater and surface water are connected within a watershed, and human activity can have both positive and negative effects on water quality and quantity in our region. Hydromania is a fun, hands-on way for youth to learn about water and our environment
The Riverfront Parks Committee is dedicated to encouraging environmental awareness and stewardship through the development of educational programming in the parks, as well as offering the region a safe, clean, and unique natural setting for year-round recreation. ChalkFest is our effort to inspire our children through creative and educational activities while also providing positive memories of the River Common.
