Pocono Summit, Monroe County-Members of the Pocono Mountain West and Lehighton High School football squads will wear gold socks during their game Friday night.
The gold socks will commemorate awareness for childhood cancer and Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital’s ThinkBIG Pediatric Cancer Fund.
In addition, the Monacelli family will be on hand to flip the coin for the opening of the game. The late Carmine Monacelli was a pediatric oncology patient at Geisinger Janet Weis Childen’s Hospital and is the inspiration behind ThinkBIG. His family will flip the coin in Carmine’s honor.
Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital’s ThinkBIG Pediatric Cancer Fund is making the socks available to help raise awareness of childhood cancer and the fund. Representatives from ThinkBIG and the Monacelli family will be on hand during the game to answer questions about pediatric cancer and the fund that helps local cancer patients.
ThinkBIG is a program that aims to offset stress for pediatric oncology families by providing financial support for unexpected out-of-pocket expenses. Donations and proceeds go directly to help families treated at Janet Weis Children’s Hospital and throughout the entire Geisinger network.
