October 5th and October 6th
Our Lady Queen of Peace Octoberfest 2013.  Saturday, October 5th 1 pm to 10 pm ; Sunday, October 6th 1 pm to 6 pm.  There will be music food and plenty of fun. The church is located at 1402 Route 209, Gilbert, PA



 

 October 5th
The Wilkes-Barre Greek Food Festival continues today Saturday, October 5th from 11:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. daily at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 32 East Ross Street (near the S. Main St. post office) in Wilkes-Barre.
An assortment of delicious Greek food and pastries will be available for eat-in and take-out purchases. Tours of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church will be given upon clergy availability. Free local delivery within two miles of the church will be offered to food purchases over $30.

*The Lycoming College theatre department presents “An Absurd Pair” of comedies, “Fire in the Basement” and “Out at Sea,” continues on  Oct. 5 in the Mary L. Welch Theatre. The performance will begins at 8 p.m. Tickets for the show only are $10 per person and $8 for seniors and students.  Reservations may be obtained by calling 570-321-4048.




 
October 6th

 
 *The second annual Tri-Boro Relay For Life will hold its Kick-Off Event on Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Arcaro & Genell’s Banquet Room. Teams, sponsors, and interested volunteers are invited to attend as we begin planning for the 2014 Relay. Light refreshments will be served. Tri-Boro Relay For Life Co-Chairs are Michele Bound and Kathy Eva Reviello.
In 2013, the Tri-Boro Relay For Life raised over $29,000 for the American Cancer Society. This year’s Tri-Boro Relay For Life will be held May 31, 2014 at Old Forge Veterans Memorial Stadium with a goal of raising $35,000. *Safe Haven Pet Rescue will hold an adoption day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, at Tractor Supply, 2970 Route 940, Pocono Summit

Safe Haven will have many young dogs available for you to meet and get to know. Safe Haven requires a pre-adoption application with references and a home visit prior to adoption.

*Mountaintop Relay For Life will be hosting a Fall Festival at the Mountaintop Little League Complex, 375 Alberdeen Road, Mountaintop on Saturday October 19, 2013 from 9am to 2pm featuring a variety of crafts, a farmers market, and flea market. Like music? Play an instrument? Like to sing? Then come on down to The
Cooperage at 1030 Main Street in Honesdale for Open Mic Night on
Wednesday, October 9th from 7:30 to 10:00pm. This acoustic-style open
mic is hosted by the talented local group, The Crackers. It’s is a fun
evening for musicians and listeners alike. The board fills up quickly,
so come early to sign-up! This is a donation based event and

*Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm celebrates their 39th Annual Harvest Festival on October 12th and 13th, 2013 with this year’s theme “ For Everything a Season” which ties in beautifully with the 50th Anniversary and Quiet Valley’s mission of preserving and presenting the agricultural history of the 19th century. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. Demonstrations are under tents. Admission is adults $10.00 & ages 3 - 12 $5.00
*State Reps. Phyllis Mundy and Karen Boback announced that they will host an elder justice seminar from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 9 at the West Wyoming Hose Co., 926 Shoemaker Ave., West Wyoming. The event is free and open to the public.



** Blue Chip Farms Animal Refuge’s biggest fund raiser of the year, our 5th Annual Dance, Saturday, October 12th, at the Wilkes-Barre, Twp., Fire hall, 152 Watson Street, Wilkes-Barre, Twp. 6pm – 11 pm.

*The United Sportsmen's Camp 271 in Huntington Mills will be hosting a Junior Pheasant Hunt in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Game Commission from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. There is not cost to the hunt. Children ages 12-16 that have a Hunter/Trapper Education certification may participate. The deadline for registration is Sept. 25. Spaces are limited. *Auditions for A CHRISTMAS CAROL- THE MUSICAL- Sat, October 19. Children ages 7 to 13; 2 TO 3 PM, Adults: 3 PM to 4:30 PM and Sunday, October 20. Children 7 to 13: 6:30 to 7:30 PM, Adults: 7:30 to 9:30 PM. All who audition will be asked to sing a song of choice. No karaoke tracks allowed. An accompanist will be provided. The show is directed by Alice Fink. Those interested in speaking roles will be asked to read from the script. All roles are open.
Production dates are: December 5 to 8, 12 to 15, and 19 to 22. Rehearsals will begin October 28.

*St. John's Lutheran Church, Ringtown, PA will be hosting a Community Fall Festival to be held on Saturday, October 12th from 11 am to 5 pm. It will be held in the St. John's Lutheran Church Parking Lot at 106 West Main Street, Ringtown. There will be food, crafts, games, DJ music by "Sound Express", hayrides, pumpkin pie baking contests, and much more. * G.A.R Memorial High School 8th Grade Class is hosting  as Breast Cancer Awareness Day on  Friday October 11th.  The members of the 8th Grade class will be wearing pink that day. 

*The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce will hold their final in a series of Schmooze a’ Palooza luncheon programs on Thursday, October 10th from 11:30 am to 1 pm at Angelo's Italian House on Alter Street in Hazleton. Happy Halloween- Haunted House- Festivals and Fun

*Are you ready for some Halloween fun? The Elysburg and Ralpho Volunteer Fire Departments are ready for you!  The Departments will host their 37th annual Elysburg Haunted House.  The haunting begins Oct. 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26 and 31st. Tickets start selling at 7 p.m.
  Over 60 volunteers each night will be roaming in the woods and the haunted house at the Elysburg Gun Club along Rt. 487.

*Trails of Terror, a walk through the haunted woods, will be held by West Wyoming Hose Company #1 every weekend in October. Trails starts in the woods behind the Hose Company #1, 926 Shoemaker Avenue, in West Wyoming, at 8:00 on Saturdays and Sundays throughout October, with a special Friday walk on October 25. *The Frackville Business and Professional Association will welcome the fall season with their the 5th annual Pumpkin Festival Oct 4th and 5th.
The event will kick of Friday, Oct 4th with the Pumpkin Chunkin’ Contest in the parking lot of Schuylkill Mall. The Hazleton Community Church will also be on hand to display and demonstrate their Pumpkin Chunker machine.  The Pumpkin Festival will be held Saturday, October 5th from 10 AM to 2 PM at the intersections of Lehigh and Frack Streets, Frackville. Prior to the start of the festival, at 9:45 AM, children will parade, with their handmade paper pumpkin creations, from the Frackville library to the festival, and winners will be awarded prizes, officially kicking off the Festival.
Beginning at 10 AM, pony rides, face painting, and pumpkin painting will be available. There will be crafts, music, food and more throughout the day,

*The Humane Society of Port Jervis and Deerpark has launched a photo contest on its Facebook page, inviting fans to submit an original photo of their pet in a Halloween costume.  The contest winner will receive a gift basket that will be enjoyed by pet and owner, as well as a Humane Society tee shirt. Submissions will be accepted from Tuesday, October 1 through Tuesday, October 15. Voting ends on Thursday, October 31 at 3pm.

To enter, users must first be a fan of the Humane Society on Facebook. Once participants have submitted their photo, they are encouraged to ask friends and family to “like” Humane Society’s Facebook page so that they will be able to vote for their favorite photo.

*Eckley Miners’ Village will have it annual Haunted Lantern Tours starting Friday October 11th. The schedule is:
Fri – Sat – October 11 & 12 – rain date October 13
Fri – Sat – October 18 & 19 – rain date October 20
Fri – Sat – October 25 & 26 – rain date October 27
The doors of the Eckley Miners’ Village Visitor’s Center will open at 6pm with the first tour beginning at 6:30pm. The last tour leaves the Center at 9pm sharp. Admission (Adults 13+) is $10 and for Children (6-12) is $5. This event is not recommended for children under 6.

* The Wyoming Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking crafters for its 20th Annual Holiday Craft Show to be held during Thanksgiving weekend, November 30 to December 1, 2013 at the Armory in Kingston.  Proceeds from the event benefit American Red Cross programs and services in the Wyoming Valley. *Vendors wanted for a Holiday Craft & Gift Fair on Sat. *Misericordia University is presenting a free interactive cooking demonstration and presentation by Father Leo Patalinghug, an internationally renowned conference speaker, author and TV host on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Huntzinger and Alden Trust Rooms 218-219 of Sandy and Marlen
 
*On Friday, November 8th, 2013, from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., the St. Luke’s Ladies’ Group is hosting an “all you care to eat” Spaghetti Dinner to honor our servicemen and women. The dinner is open to the public and free of charge. Donations will be accepted for the Fisher House for their aid to military persons and their families.

 


December Events:
*A Free Spaghetti Dinner will be held on Saturday, December 8th from 2 to 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mahanoy City. Meal will include: salad,, spaghetti and meatballs, roll and butter, home-made dessert and beverage. A good will offering will be accepted. The Church is located at 400 East Mahanoy Street. Additional home-made desserts will be available to purchase at the dinner. Church is handicap-accessible.
