Novemeber 9 and November 10, 2013



The Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre is presenting "National Pastime".  The Theatre is located at  537 N. Main Street in Wilkes-  Show time: 8 pm- November 9.  Then matinee: at  3 p.m.  Nov.  10.

Phoenix Theatrics closes its 2013 season proudly presenting "JEKYLL & HYDE" the Musical. This is the first time the show has been presented in our area in five years.  The will be presented through November 16  Friday/Saturday Shows 8:00pm  Sunday Matinees  2:00pm. Tickets are $12.00

 November 9

*Pork & Sauerkraut buffet November 9, 2013 at the Hughesville Fire Hall. Serving from 4:00p.m. till 6:30p.m. Adults-$9.00 children 6-12 $4.00. Benefits local and world hunger. Sponsored by Messiah-St. James Lutheran Parish.


The 2nd Annual Celebration for Champ fundraiser will be held at R&D Memories Banquet Hall on Fellows Avenue in Hanover Township from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9th.  The event benefits Ethan Carle Memorial Fund - Ethan was a 18 month old who passed away from a rare blood disorder. A buffet-style roast beef dinner with deserts will be served, and refreshments include beer and soda. A Chinese Auction . DJ Music will be provided. Cost is $20.00 adults and children 10 and under is free. Limited seating. Tickets are available at the door . *The Osterhout Free Library will host a Shirley Temple Film Fest on Saturday, November, 9 from 12:30pm to 4:00pm.

The Abington Community Library will host its Dorothy Boccella 2013 Holiday Marketplace fundraiser on Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 10 AM to 4 PM. The library is located at 1200 West Grove Street, Clarks Summit. Admission is FREE. This annual fundraiser will feature over 25 local vendors with unique handcrafted items. A chance raffle is available with over 80 beautiful baskets donated by local businesses and individuals


Keystone College students will literally “band together” to help fight cancer on Saturday, November 9 from 3 – 11 p.m. at Brooks Theatre on campus. A variety of local bands will entertain students and members of the community. There will also be face-painting, basket raffles, a bake sale, and entertainment by hip-hop producer and songwriter Mike Devoe. All proceeds from the event will benefit local cancer charities




November 10

THE 68th Annual Wyoming Valley Veteran's Day Parade will be held  on November 10th, 2013 in Kingston. The parade with step off approximately at 2 p.m. and  will feature all branches of the military, floats, school bands and many area organizations. This is the largest Veteran's parade in Northeast PA and we invite all to participate in this event.

 
 *The Lycoming College Community Service Center and Lycoming Buddies will hold the “Hand in Hand” festival on Sunday, Nov. 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Pennington Lounge in the Academic Center and on the intramural fields. The event is planned for Special Olympics athletes in the Williamsport area and will feature games, sports or activities organized by college clubs, organizations and sports teams. The event is free and open to the public.

Monday, November 11 Veterans Day
King’s College will conduct a Veterans’ Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the monument near the entrance to the Administration Building on North River Street.
The program features remarks from senior Nicolette Pizzo, detachment commander, King's College Army ROTC; and veterans and friends from the local community.
The event program also includes an invocation by King's President Rev. Jack Ryan, C.S.C., participating administrators who have served in the armed services, raising of the American Flag, Taps, and freshman Nadia Anabtawi will sing the National Anthem.

*General Theodore J. Wint Post 25 V.F.W, of 2291 Rockwell Avenue in Scranton, together with State Representative Marty Flynn will host a free luncheon on Monday, November 11, Veterans Day at the Post, immediately after the ceremonies at Courthouse Square and Post 25. 11:30 am to 2:30 pm Commandant James Kuchwara said that there will be complimentary food, soft drinks, coffee and cake for all Veterans of the region and their families. The lunch will continue until all are served.


*Veterans Day will be observed at Hazleton City Hall on Monday, November 11. The Hazleton Fire Department and the Heights Fire Co. are organizing the observance. A moment of silence will be observed at 11:11 am.



*The Keystone College community will come together to honor America’s veterans and current members of the military during the ninth annual Veterans Day luncheon on Monday, Nov. 11 from 12:30 – 2 p.m. Evans Hall in Hibbard Campus Center. Main speakers for the event will be Keystone College freshman U.S. Marine Sgt. Nathan Frappier and Lackawanna County President Judge and U.S. Army and Vietnam veteran Thomas J. Munley.








Coming Up:

* "The Book of Broadway" is an orginal musical written and directed by Hanover Area Senior Student, Alyssa Thomas. The curtian will go up on Friday, November 15 at 7pm at the Hanover Area High School Auditorium.
  Thomas wrote this musical for her senior year school project.  The proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Ruth's Place in Wilkes-Barre.  Ruth's place is an emergency shelter for women in Luzerne County. 
  Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults.  There will be a basket raffle and auction the night of the show.

*Misericordia University is presenting a free interactive cooking demonstration and presentation by Father Leo Patalinghug, an internationally renowned conference speaker, author and TV host on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Huntzinger and Alden Trust Rooms 218-219 of Sandy and Marlen


*Auditions! for two upcoming shows at : Phoenix Performing Arts Centre in Duryea.  Seussical the Musical - ages 9 to 13  School House Rock and School House Rock Too - ages 5 to 8  Monday, Nov. 11 from 6:00 till 8:00 and Saturday Nov. 16 from 10:00am to Noon for both shows.
 
*Bucknell University's Film/Media Series will host a screening of "Nicky's Family" on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus Theatre, located at 413 Market St. in Lewisburg.

*Like music? Play an instrument? Like to sing? Then come on down to The Cooperage at 1030 Main Street in Honesdale for Open Mic Night on Wednesday, November 13th from 7:30 to 10:00pm. This acoustic-style open mic is hosted by the talented local group, The Crackers. It’s is a fun evening for musicians and listeners alike. The board fills up quickly, so come early to sign-up! This is a donation based event and contributions are appreciated.
Then the Cooperage Project in Honesdale invites you to bring your whole family down to the The Cooperage on Thursday, November 14th from 6:00 to 9:00pm for a night of games. Board games, card games, brain games--we’ll have all kinds of games to play.

*Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Wind Ensemble will perform symphonic music in their concert on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 2:30 p.m. in Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

* The Wyoming Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking crafters for its 20th Annual Holiday Craft Show to be held during Thanksgiving weekend, November 30 to December 1, 2013 at the Armory in Kingston.  Proceeds from the event benefit American Red Cross programs and services in the Wyoming Valley. *The 7th Annual Sayre Turkey Trot 5K, sponsored by the Williams Auto Group and Dandy Mini Marts, will take place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. The free
Online registration for the 5K event is now available at the Sayre Turkey Trot website – www.sayreturkeytrot.com – with an advance registration fee of $20 and day-of registration fee of $25. Turkey Trot Teams with up to five members may enjoy discounted registration of $18 per person in advance or $23 on race day. Advance registrations will be accepted until November 21 and will guarantee the first 450 5K participants a long-sleeve Technical Shirt

*Boy Scout Troop 98 is conducting a clothing drive collection  Sunday November 17th from noon to 3 pm. A truck and a table set up next to the main entrance of Brodheadsville Self Storage which is located at the end of Jena Drive, directly across from PV High School on Rt 115.  This clothing drive will help to defray the cost of taking 13 scouts on a high adventure trek to Maine next summer.




*Vendors wanted for a Holiday Craft & Gift Fair on Sat. *L.A. Theatre Works brings cult favorite “The Graduate” to life on Friday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall. Tickets for the Celebrity Artist Series show are $35 for general admission and $17 for BU students and children.

Photos will be taken with Santa Claus at Dino & Francesco's Restaurant in the Birney Plaza in Moosic  on Saturday, November 30 from 12:00 noon until 3:00 pm - Santa is welcoming both Pets and  Children for pictures. All pictures will be available the same day and are $10.00 per photo with proceeds benefiting Tracey's Hope Hospice Care Program and Rescue for Domestic Animals, Inc.  Pictures will be taken by Pixel Perfect Photography Studio. December Events:
*A Free Spaghetti Dinner will be held on Saturday, December 8th from 2 to 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mahanoy City. Meal will include: salad,, spaghetti and meatballs, roll and butter, home-made dessert and beverage. A good will offering will be accepted. The Church is located at 400 East Mahanoy Street. Additional home-made desserts will be available to purchase at the dinner. Church is handicap-accessible.


A CHRISTMAS CAROL- Original musical by Kevin Costley and Ted Anderson based on Dickens’ classic story. Dec 5 to 8, 12 to 15 and 19 to 22. *The 20th Annual Performance of "The Gift" presented by the Back Mountain Harvest Assembly.  Many families have made it their tradition to bundle up, bring some blankets and grab a cup of hot chocolate while they watch "The Gift". If you have never seen Back Mountain Harvest Assembly's live nativity -- "The Gift," start the tradition this year.
