The 68th Annual Wyoming Valley Veteran's Day Parade will be held  on November 10th, 2013 in Kingston. The parade with step off approximately at 2 p.m. and  will feature all branches of the military, floats, school bands and many area organizations. This is the largest Veteran's parade in Northeast PA and we invite all to participate in this event.

  This year's parade theme is Saluting Our Veteran's and their Families. Students in grades 4-12 from Luzerne County are invited to participate.

LCDR Susan Allen, who retired from the U.S. Navy in 2008 after 20 years service, said this year host service will be the Navy. The Navy's Ceremonial Guard from Washington, D.C., will perform silent rifle and sword drills in honor of that branch of the military.Allen, who now teaches in the Tunkhanock Area School District.

   Eyewitness News Lead I-Team Reporter   Andy Mehalshick will be the emcee for the event. 

 

    Area students are invited to participate in an essay contest.
There will be four award categories for this contest: Grades 4&5, Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12.
*. All essays MUST have a cover page containing the following information:
* Essay title
* Name, address, telephone number and e-mail address (if applicable) of contestant.
* “This essay was written without assistance other than that provided for all members of my class.” ____________________ (contestant signature)
* Parent or Guardian name and signature.
* Name of school and grade
*. All essays must be no less than 500 words (250 words for Grades 4&5) and no more than 1000 words.
*. Typewritten essays are preferred but not required.
*. Essays shall be judged on the following:
* Proper English structure
* Accuracy
* Extent of information
* Originality
*. Each local school must determine its own winner and submit the winning essay no later than October 14, 2013 to: Wyoming Valley Veterans Day Parade Committee

*. All school winners will be invited to participate in the Wyoming Valley Veterans Day parade to be held on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 2 PM.
*. Award winners will be notified by October 24, 2011 and will be invited to attend an award ceremony prior to the parade where the winners will be announced.
*. Prizes to be awarded: The third place winner for each category will be awarded $50. The second place winner for each category will be awarded $100. The first place winner for each category will be awarded $250. Honorable Mention winners will receive $25.
