The advantages and disadvantages of putting your children on your car insurance.<br>
Q- My son/daughter just got their license, should I get them their own insurance policy or put them on mine.
A- There are advantages and disadvantages to both. The advantage of putting them on your policy is that all of your coverage limits will apply to your son/daughter in the event they are in an automobile collision. The disadvantage, generally to this is the cost because your son/daughter does not driving history. The advantage of putting them on their own policy is they are separate from you in the event they cause an automobile collision. The disadvantage is that if they are driving one of your other cars they may be excluded from being able to recover for any injuries under something called the "household exclusion." We would always recommend putting your son/daughter on your policy because of exclusions that can apply if they are on their own.
