The Electric City Prepares for New Year's Eve

Area businesses are preparing for a busy New Year's Eve and First Night Scranton will Salute Hollywood. Eyewitness News Photo Journalist Tom Gregory has the story

Scranton, Lackawanna County-Hollywood is taking over the Electric City for New Year's Eve. "A Salute to Hollywood" is the theme of the 15th Annual First Night Scranton. Festivities for kids and adults kick off tomorrow afternoon at 3 and run throughout the night. The Steamtown Mall is the anchor for First Night Scranton., but many places within a mile radius are participating as well.

Paige Balitski, First Night Scranton Project manager told Eyewitness News"It is an alcohol free, family friendly, wonderful evening for the entire family downtown." 

 The cost is ten dollars for a button and map.. Kids 5 and under are free and seniors are 5 dollars. A shuttle bus will be available for traveling from place to place. Planning for First  Night Scranton begins in February each year.

  The New Year is synonymous with the same long-established tradition for people in Lackawanna County, that tradition centers around Seafood. Eyewitness News stopped by Coopers Seafood House's outdoor fish stand today to see what was on people's holiday dinner menus.  Lobster, clams, scallops and more are very popular menu items!
