It seemed as though State Troopers were just about everywhere in Hazleton Friday as the family of a man shot and killed by Hazleton police last weekend held a rally to demand answers in the case. 26 year old Jonathan Garay was shot and killed at his Alter Street home after he allegedly tried to point a gun at two Hazleton City Police officers. Troopers will only say they were in the city to make sure the rally went off safely but sources close to the case tell this reporter that they were there in response to threats made by the gang known as the Latin Kings. The gang supposedly is seeking to retaliate against Hazleton police for the deadly shooting. Veronica Garay, Garay's sister, said, "We are not involved in gangs and neither was Jonathan. We don't care what people say we only want justice for Jonathan." Sources close to the investigation tell the I-0team that Garay is not a gang member but for some unknown reason the Latin kings have shown an interest in the case. The Luzerne County District Attorney's Office and State Police are investigating whether or not the shooting was justified and are expected to release a final report next week.
