“Tomorrow-December 22 is the Fourth Sunday in Advent and to mark the occasion the fourth and final Advent Column will be lighted on the Gloria In Excelsis Tower of St. Stephen’s Pro-Cathedral on Franklin Street, in Wilkes-Barre. This is the only external decoration and illumination to mark the season of Advent at the church. A purple column for each of the first two weeks, a rose-colored or red for the third and a further purple for the fourth week of the advent season leading up to Christmas
The lighting is a first for St. Stephen’s. It will also mark the kick-off for a tower maintenance fund.
This has been a labor of love for Parishioners who have donated their time and talent for this seasonal gesture and to make the broader community aware of the season of Advent.
The columns treated are on the South face of the Gloria in Excelsis Tower and easily seen by those traveling North on Franklin Street. All four faces could be lighted in the future, pending interest and funding.
