Be the Answer! Dream Big and Believe in Yourself! Speak with Kindness! Look for the Best in Others! Those are just some of the quotes from Rachel Joy Scott’s journal that now loom large outside Wayne Memorial Hospital. The yard signs were created by students in Wayne Highlands’ art teacher Carol Weber’s Studio Art classes. They were planted by Donna Decker, RN, manager Wayne Memorial Community Health and her co-workers in Community Relations and Public Relations. More will be displayed at the Honesdale Library and the Behavioral Health Drop-in-center on Main Street, Honesdale. Rachel Scott, who lost her life at Columbine High School in 1999, is the force behind Rachel’s Challenge, started by her family to spread her message of kindness—“create a chain reaction” of kindness. The Rachel’s Challenge program was presented in Wallenpaupack, Wayne Highlands, Western Wayne, and Forest City School Districts earlier this year and live on in Friends of Rachel clubs (FOR clubs) in all the schools. The programs were co-presented by the schools, Wayne Memorial Hospital and the Wayne County Office of Behavioral and Developmental Programs and Early Intervention.
