Shooting at the Ross Twp Supervisors Meeting

A gunman opened fire at a Ross Township Supervisors meeting in the Poconos just before 7:30 P.M. Three are dead and 4 others, including the gunman, are injured.



ROSS TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY -- A gunman opened fire during a township supervisors meeting this evening, shooting six people. County officials confirm three people are now dead. Several others were taken to the hospital. The gunman has also been taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

The Ross Township Supervisors regular monthly meeting was slated to begin at 7pm. The first call to 9-1-1 came in at 7:23 P.M. Two of the injured were flown to the Lehigh Valley and two others were taken to Pocono Medical Center. One of the victims flown to the hospital was later pronounced dead. The gunman was also taken to PMC. Stroud Area Regional Police are providing security there.

State police have confirmed the gunman is Rockne Newell.  Newell was taken to the hospital and released and is now in police custody.

State troopers have secured the home of Rockne Newell and are waiting for a search warrant.   Newell has had a longstanding feud with township supervisors over the condition of his property.

 

During the 11 pm News
State Police Held a  News Conference on Ross Township Shooting:  Three people died-four injured.  State police misspoke during the news conference saying four people were dead. The fourth person is in surgery.  The gunman Rockne Newell is in police custody.
