River Search Called Off

The fire chief requested if anyone is missing a green and gray snowboard, or if you know of anyone missing to please contact Wilkes- Barre police department.
Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County-The call came in to emergency dispatchers around 11 Thursday morning. A snow board was found by a passer-by walking on the Market Street bridge in Wilkes-Barre.
 
Fire Chief Jay Delaney - Wilkes-Barre fire department told us
"There is no opening there is no hole but there is a snow board and there were some tracks there"
 
The Susquehanna River was filled with large chunks of ice and snow, making it difficult for the Duryea water rescue team to search the water.
 
“The Huber craft won’t go across it the divers can’t get out there is no safe way to get down there and totally examine what’s going on down there we don’t want to risk any of our people to be able to do that "
 
After making the decision that it was too dangerous to send crews into the water.
Wilkes-Barre Fire Chief Jay Delaney says they used binoculars to get a closer look and discovered a pair of light colored gloves near the snow board.
But with no one reported missing; the search was soon called off.
 
Those who witnessed Thursday’s river search, like William Iveron, were surprised someone would just leave a snow board behind.
“They are too expensive why would you leave a snow board there i mean you can see shoe prints so someone was down there with the snow board”
 
Some bystanders like Eric Iorl were even confused as to what someone would be doing on the ice.
 
"I don’t know if he would walk from the thing and slide around the ice but it makes no sense I just hope he didn’t fall through"
