People in Need are Invited to Free Community Dinners

The staff at an area resort is providing free meals for people in need, no questions asked.

Shawnee on Delaware, Monroe County – Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort cook Tasha Silva has a lot of extra
work to do this week. The resort expects to have about 100 guests for its first
Community Outreach Dinner of the season. Silva smiled, "I'm definitely
excited. I love to help people that need the assistance."

The dinners will be every other Wednesday at 5p.m. starting this week. This is the fourth
year for the outreach. Shawnee Inn General Manager Rob Howell said, "It's
just an opportunity to give back to the community. There are a lot of people
who are hungry. There are a lot of people who need a meal."

Howell emphasized anyone who needs a meal is welcome. "We don't ask for anything.
We just ask you to come."

He said it’s important to make sure people have hot meals to look forward to
throughout the winter, not just on holidays. "It just seems to be really a
time when people need to stay warm and they need to have a good meal,” he said.

In addition to serving food, inn staffers also plan to give out necessities.
Howell noted, "Sometimes we'll have other things that are being given
away, whether they're just soap or shampoo or Kleenex or other things that
people may need."

The Pocono Family YMCA is providing free transportation to the dinners from Stroudsburg. A shuttle
will pick people up at the American Ribbon Factory in Stroudsburg at 4:30 every
other Wednesday beginning November 20th.
