Olympic Ice Dancer

Luzerne County figure skating club gets a special treat from a former Olympic athlete
Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County – Otar Japaridze and Angelina Telejina dazzled the crowd at Coal Street Ice Rink this past weekend with their silky smooth ice dancing moves.

“Ice Dancing is such an interesting sport,” said Telejina. “It’s music and beautiful girls!”

Otar and Angelina have been skating together for almost 2 years.

They failed to qualify for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, but Otar was fortunate to accomplish the feat with a different partner in 2010, he represented Georgia at the Winter Games in Vancouver.

“I’d say the Olympics are the most important for every athlete,” said Japaridze.  “It’s what every athlete works towards.”

As you can imagine, it’s a lot of work.  Otar said preparing for the Olympics requires rigorous training on and off the ice.

“Normally for me and Angelina, it’s a little more than 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, it’s pretty intense training,” said Japaridze.  “It’s like a full-time job.”

Working with an experienced partner like Otar has Angelina excited about the prospect of one day reaching the Olympic stage.

“I never made it before, but I think it will be great.  I’ll be so proud.”
