LGBT-Focused Biography

John Dawe, CFRE has been involved in LGBT Activism for more than a decade, serving
as executive director of the NEPA Rainbow Alliance since its founding in
2003.  Undertaking a comprehensive research approach to meeting the needs
of LGBT individuals and families in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Dawe instituted
an ongoing needs scan to measure need-fulfillment progress in the region. This
needs scan has resulted in significant needs being met over the past decade and
resulted in the opening of an LGBT community center.
Dawe serves as secretary of Equality Pennsylvania, a 60,000 member statewide political
organization advocating for LGBT equality. Recently, Dawe led a successful
campaign to win a non-discrimination law in Pittston, protecting citizens from
workplace, housing, and public accommodation discrimination on the basis of
sexual orientation or gender identity. He was named a one of twenty “2013
People to Watch” by Philadelphia Gay News.

Dawe is also president of The Dawe Consulting Group, a full-service consulting firm

replicated at chapters across the country and featured in Advancing
Philanthropy
.  As Chapter President from 2007-08, he established a
solid chapter professional advancement program for mid-sized chapters that has
been used as a model for numerous AFP Chapters and other professional
association groups.

At age 26, he was the youngest person to lead the AFP Chapter in Northeastern
Pennsylvania, establishing new benchmarks for program attendance, membership
recruitment and retention, etc. Under his leadership the chapter awards program
was re-energized with new sponsorships and the use of technology.

Dawe has served on numerous AFP International Committees including the Awards
