New Banners for the City of Hazleton

New banners debut in the downtown
Workers from the Hazleton City Public Works Department began placing banners on Downtown light poles today.  The banners, sixty-nine in all, are a project of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce’s Downtown Committee and sport a tree with mountains in the background. According to the Chamber’s Downtown committee chairman Bill Spear, “The committee discussed colors for the banner and also wanted to come up with some type of theme. It was thought that a tree symbolized growth and our area is noted for our beautiful mountains, so we put those two ideas together and came up with our design.”
Chamber president Donna Palermo states, “This project was one which the committee felt would bring immediate attention to the downtown area and one which the Chamber spearheaded to address one aspect of the image of the area.  Hundreds of thousands of motorists, pedestrians and residents will view the banners throughout approximately seven months of the year. Funfest banners are displayed late July through early September and Christmas decorations are hung for the holidays.”  Palermo continues, “We would especially like to thank the City of Hazleton Department of Public Works for their ongoing support of the project.  The workers, under the direction of Frank Vito, certainly went over and above the call of duty in erecting the banners. Also, the project would certainly not have been possible without the many businesses that sponsored the banners. It truly was a cooperative effort and one which we are extremely proud of.”
