Kings College officials confirmed with Eyewitness News they will buy the Ramada Hotel property in downtown Wilkes-Barre for $2.7 million dollars. The property will be used for the college's expanding and highly successful Physicians Assistant Studies Program as well as other academic programs and student housing. The college will make $11.5 million dollars in renovations in phase one of the project. Phil Rudy has owned and operated Circles Deli on the square for 29 years he said the sale is nothing but good, Rudy said, "It is a good thing. I can't think of a better steward for that building than Kings College. " Gus Genetti, owner of the Best Western Hotel and Conference Center near Public Square echoed Rudy's comments, "I don't see a negative to the sale. We have just finised a two year renovation project and are celebrating our 50th anniversary. Ramada is even forwarding some of its business our way which we really appreciate." Questions have arisen about the tax implications of the sale. Kings officials say they will hold a news conference in the near future to talk about the project. The I-Team has already begun researching the tax questions and will have more in the days ahead.
