Join Lewisburg Downtown Partnership at the Next Level

The LDP will unveil the plan on Wednesday, September 25 from 5-7 p.m. at the Packwood House Museum during a cocktail reception to kick off LDP’s Join Us At the Next Level Campaign.
Lewisburg – The Lewisburg Downtown Partnership has completed an exciting new strategic plan that leads the charge for Lewisburg to become the cultural and economic magnet of the region. The LDP will unveil the plan on Wednesday, September 25 from 5-7 p.m. at the Packwood House Museum during a cocktail reception to kick off LDP’s Join Us At the Next Level Campaign.  The campaign will fund activities from 2014 to 2016 and take downtown Lewisburg to the next level, where it can serve as the cultural and economic magnet for the Lewisburg region.  The next level for downtown Lewisburg requires even greater partnership development, business expansion, and marketing.

In 1999, Market Street, Lewisburg, had 13 vacant first-floor businesses. The LDP was formed when the Borough of Lewisburg, Bucknell University, and the downtown business community began an effort to fill the vacancies, market downtown as a destination, and forge partnerships to encourage collaboration.  In a small rural community like Lewisburg, where fewer people live in the county than in several city blocks, strong downtowns with enough foot traffic to support a shopping district are rare.  Since 2004, downtown has enjoyed a 2% vacancy rate; the award-winning www.lewisburgpa.com has become the cornerstone of downtown marketing; and the spirit of collaboration that formed the LDP has broadened and strengthened, resulting in Lewisburg’s burgeoning vibrancy.
“There is a level of vibrancy that we have not seen yet downtown, and this plan sets a road map to get there,” said Linda Sterling, Executive Director of the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership. “We spent last year investigating ways to achieve an even more vibrant downtown Lewisburg.”  The research effort, dubbed “Leading Lewisburg,” was funded in part by a grant from the Degenstein Foundation and sought insight from stakeholders and community members, reached out to other vibrant downtowns and relied on board members and local volunteers to help distill the information.  The results informed the Board of Directors’ work when they developed the new strategic plan.
The Lewisburg Downtown Partnership works to ensure downtown remains the heart and soul of Lewisburg.  Its strategic plan is organized around the four pillars in which LDP works:  Economic Development, Marketing and Promotion, Historic Preservation and Design, and Organization.  For more information about the Campaign for Lewisburg or to donate on line, please go to: http://www.lewisburgpa.com/contribute/
