Jim Thorpe, Carbon County- Rescue Crews took advantage of Saturday's Polar Plunge in Jim Thorpe. They used the swimming hole for an ice rescue drill. Firefighters dressed in rescue gear taking turns simulating procedures using throw bags and flotation devices. Ice water rescues can be very dangerous because the ice can be so thin but that wasn't a problem this time. Between eight to ten inches of ice cover Mauch Chunk Lake this weekend -- making it the perfect situation to practice the drill in Carbon County.
