On September 14, 2013 Kentrel and Odak will once again host their charity softball tournament at PNC Field in Moosic, PA. All proceeds for the day will go to the Central and the Eastern Central Chapters of the JDRF. This is a very family friendly event with activities planned for children of all ages. From 9 am – 6 pm guests can watch the double field tournament play while children enjoy the Fun Zone, dunk tank, face painting, chalk drawing and carnival games. Small donations are being asked for activities. Revello’s concession stand will be serving food and beverages for the day. Admission to the ball park is $3 in advance, $5 at the door, children 3 and under admitted for free. Businesses in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area are graciously sponsoring children’s game booths and raffle baskets. Elementary children will create signage to proudly display company information. Local politicians are being encouraged to come out to meet their constituents.
Pennsylvania American Water (www.pennsylvaniaamwater.com) is a major sponsor to the event by not only contributing a team but also hosting lunch for all ball players.
Type 1, or juvenile diabetes, strikes both children and adults at any age. It comes on suddenly, causes dependence on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Each year, more than 15,000 children and 15,000 adults – approximately 80 people per day – are diagnosed with T1D in the U.S.
JDRF (www.jdrf.org) is the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. In 2012 alone, JDRF provided more than $110 million to T1D research - named by Forbes magazine as one of its five All-Star charities.
