Historic Dansbury Depot Donation

The money will continue the restoration of the interior of the building
Monroe County-The Historic Dansbury Depot in East Stroudsburg is grateful to have received another $100,000 grant from the R. Dale and Frances M. Hughes Foundation.  This money will continue the restoration of the interior of the building.  Historically, the Hughes family has always been a strong influence in our community.  Over the years, many of our local people worked at Hughes Printing.  It was a good place to work and supported many families.  The family continues their involvement with generous donations to many groups.
Bathrooms are the current focus and then work will move on to the ticket booth.  The bathrooms will be restored with marble tiles on the floors and the walls.  Cabinets will be added to the ticket booth.  Again, they will match the interior of the depot.
The generosity of the Hughes Foundation has done a remarkable job with the interior so far.  The ceilings, walls, and woodwork have all been completed by Harley Fish, Jr. Construction with the aid of his father, Harley, Sr. and his son Josh.  All of the wood has been made to match the wood that was in the station when it was built.  A considerable amount of time, effort, and great attention to detail went into this work.
The grant monies have also allowed the purchase of antique wood for our floors.  The original flooring will be refinished but the burned out, new construction areas will be restored with wood that was purchased from an old 1800's factory in New Jersey.  This maple wood matches the wood that is already in the station.  After the old wood is installed, the entire floor will be refinished.  This will make a proud showing for our "lady!"

The future will bring many uses for the building.  At this point, it is planned to use the building as a museum, a rotating art gallery, a community center with room rentals helping to pay for monthly on-going expenses, and a gathering place for families and friends.  It would be a perfect place for a small wedding, showers, parties, or family events.

Financial support to help with the restoration can be mailed to: Dansbury Depot-Eastburg Community Alliance, 68 Analomink St., East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.  Please make checks payable to Dansbury Depot-ECA.  Please include your name, address, phone number and email address.  Your donation is tax deductible and a receipt will be sent back to you.  All donations are greatly appreciated and will lead to a major legacy left to our future generations.
