Happy Halloween- Haunted Houses- Festivals and Fun

Have a Happy and Safe Halloween- Here are some events to enjoy.
Here is a listing of some of the Halloween events going on across NEPA.  Some of the haunted house event may not be suitable for small children- call ahead.

*Are you ready for some Halloween fun? The Elysburg and Ralpho Volunteer Fire Departments are ready for you!  The Departments will host their 37th annual Elysburg Haunted House.  The haunting begins Oct. 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26 and 31st. Tickets start selling at 7 p.m.
  Over 60 volunteers each night will be roaming in the woods and the haunted house at the Elysburg Gun Club along Rt. 487.

*Trails of Terror, a walk through the haunted woods, will be held by West Wyoming Hose Company #1 every weekend in October. Trails starts in the woods behind the Hose Company #1, 926 Shoemaker Avenue, in West Wyoming, at 8:00 on Saturdays and Sundays throughout October, with a special Friday walk on October 25. *The Humane Society of Port Jervis and Deerpark has launched a photo contest on its Facebook page, inviting fans to submit an original photo of their pet in a Halloween costume.  The contest winner will receive a gift basket that will be enjoyed by pet and owner, as well as a Humane Society tee shirt. Submissions will be accepted from Tuesday, October 1 through Tuesday, October 15. Voting ends on Thursday, October 31 at 3pm.

To enter, users must first be a fan of the Humane Society on Facebook. Once participants have submitted their photo, they are encouraged to ask friends and family to “like” Humane Society’s Facebook page so that they will be able to vote for their favorite photo.

Halloween Pet Photo Contest entries can be submitted via e-mail to katrina.pjhumane@yahoo.com or mailed to 202 Route 209, Port Jervis NY 12771. Applicants from all areas are welcome. All species of pets are welcome, as well.

*Eckley Miners’ Village will have it annual Haunted Lantern Tours starting Friday October 11th. The schedule is:
Fri – Sat – October 11 & 12 – rain date October 13
Fri – Sat – October 18 & 19 – rain date October 20
Fri – Sat – October 25 & 26 – rain date October 27
The doors of the Eckley Miners’ Village Visitor’s Center will open at 6pm with the first tour beginning at 6:30pm. The last tour leaves the Center at 9pm sharp. Admission (Adults 13+) is $10 and for Children (6-12) is $5. This event is not recommended for children under 6.

*Harvest Fest a family-friendly children's festival featuring entertainment, games, prizes and more!  October 13, 12 to 3 pm Shadowbrook Inn & Resort Tunkhannock. Includes Contests, Pumpkin Decorating, Face Painting, Bake Sale, Bouncy House, Pony Rides (1:00 - 3:00 P.M.), Chinese Auction, Refreshments. $5.00 per child

**Penn State Wilkes-Barre Haunted Forest will be held, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 17-18-19 and October 24-25-26. Doors open at 7 pm, with last show starting at 10:40pm. Cost is $7 per person and groups of 10 or more $5 each. This year there will be a special Safe Trick or Treating show for children under 8 on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 2-4, $3 per child.  Proceeds benefit  Children with Pediatric Cancer at the Hershey Medical Center

*Intensely terrifying, ghoulish, horrifying! Tour the haunted halls of West Scranton High School as tales of the macabre, eerie and strange come to life in this theatrical haunted house. Thrilling scenes from horror fiction come to life on two floors of the historic building on Luzerne St: the most intense scenes from the most horrific writers like Poe, King, The Grimm Brothers will give guests a thrill to die for! October 26 from 6-10pm, October 27 from 5-9pm. $5 at the door; ages 8 and up.

*In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness month in October, the Wilkes-Barre Car Club and Domestic Violence Service Center (DVSC) will host a “Trunk OR Treat” event on Friday October 25th from 5:30-7:30 pm on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre. This is a FREE Family event and will feature a Halloween parade and treats for the children. All kids in costume will be able to collect FREE treats

*The Misericordia University Dead Alchemist Society is planning to present an expanded spectacle for the student organization’s 22nd annual “Things that go Boom in the Night!’’ on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Amphitheater on campus. The event is open free to the public.

*(Family Friendly) Back Mountain Harvest Assembly is Once again hosting the annual  "Light the Night"  with a variety of indoor amusements (Vertical Rush, Moonbounce, Rockem Joust), games, food & candy available! Your family is sure to have a great FREE evening.  Also, we will be holding the annual Chili Cook-Off. Please bring Chili no later than 6:00pm. Special prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd. *King’s College Chemistry Club will present a traditional ghoulish exhibition of chemical delights in commemoration of National Chemistry Week and Halloween with the 17th Annual “Things that Go Boom in the Night” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the Burke Auditorium, William G. McGowan School of Business, located on North River Street.
