Geisinger employees dance for breast cancer awareness

Pink Glove Dance Competition-vote!
For the second consecutive year, more than 1,000 Geisinger Health System (GHS) employees and community members put on their pink gloves and danced for breast cancer awareness and a chance to win up to $25,000 for the American Cancer Societies of central and northeastern Pennsylvania.
The nationwide Pink Glove Dance Competition, sponsored by Medline Industries, Inc., is a video competition with participants at Geisinger locations dancing to the song “Brave” by Sara Bareilles. Three community shoots in Danville, Wilkes-Barre and Scranton brought in participants ranging from community survivors and their families to Bloomsburg University nursing students and their mascot. The winner of the competition will receive $25,000 for the charity of its choice. Second place wins $10,000 and third place wins $5,000.
The 2013 video was dedicated in memory of Yvonne Dawson, a former Geisinger Medical Center patient who lost her 15-year battle with cancer earlier this year. She danced in the 2012 Geisinger Pink Glove Dance video, which placed 19th out of more than 250 videos.
The Pink Glove Dance Competition is a system-wide initiative led by Susan M. Hallick, R.N., B.S.N., M.H.A., N.E.A.-B.C., executive vice president, chief nursing officer, GHS.
“This is only our second year of competing in the Pink Glove Dance Competition, and it’s already become an event that’s so important to our employees and community,” said Hallick. “It’s an emotional, empowering video that captures what it means to be brave when faced with adversity. We at Geisinger demonstrate our dedication to providing the best possible care for our patients and their families, every day. Being brave is much easier when you can do it together.”
Voting begins at www.pinkglovedance.com on Friday, Oct. 25 and ends Friday, Nov. 8. Voting is allowed once per day, per email account through the end of the voting period.
