Foster-A-Pet Program Fundraiser

Leadership Lackawanna To host upcoming event
Leadership Lackawanna in association with Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Rd., South Abington Township, will hold a Feel Good Friday event at the Backyard Ale House, 523 Linden St, Scranton, benefiting the Foster-A-Pet Program on January 10, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is $20 per person. The donation will include two hours of open bar, various appetizers, raffles, prizes and live entertainment from local singer/songwriter Tom Graham.
Griffin Pond Animal Shelter launched a foster program in early 2012. It is volunteer run with administrative assistance from shelter staff. The shelter cares for nearly 6,000 animals a year, so the foster program is a necessary means of specialized care for sick, injured, newborn/nursing animals or animals with behavioral issues. The foster program is a key component in reducing the number of animals facing euthanasia at the shelter, through dedicated care from fosters and by making space available for other animals while keeping more animals off the streets of our community.
In the Leadership Lackawanna 10-month Core Program, participants gain relevant skills and enhanced understandings of the issues and topics relevant to the greater Scranton area.  Class members also participate in group projects benefiting local nonprofit organizations.  Established in 1982, Leadership Lackawanna’s three programs - teen, core and executive leadership – have graduated more than 1,400 community leaders.  For more information, visit
