Luzerne County- A tragic scene in Forty-Fort Sunday afternoon. A father shot and killed his two year old daughter before turning the gun on himself.
The little girl's grandfather told Eyewitness News this afternoon , his daughter was helping out at their family business when they received a call from his son in law, that would forever change their lives.
"He just said, say good bye to your daughter and we called 9-11 and it was too late." Tom Hess and other family members consoled each other after learning his granddaughter was killed just one day after celebrating her second birthday.
Hess told Eyewitness News "They had this adorable little two year old. The light of our life and that's gone."
Just before noon Sunday, two-year-old Cameron Schultz was fatally shot by her father Nick Schultz who then turned the gun on himself at their home on Wesley Street in Forty Fort.
"Never in a million years I would have thought he would have killed our granddaughter there's just no reason for it except to hurt everybody hurt his wife and take away everything from her basically "
Hess says his daughter Jessie and granddaughter have been staying with him ever since his daughter split from his son in law Nick a little more then a week ago.
While he knew emotions were running high, Hess said never expected his son in law to take his own granddaughter's life.
Neighbors describe the Schultzes as a quiet family who kept to themselves .
The District Attorney say's there will be no charges filed since this was a murder suicide.
