Downtown Wilkes-Barre Demolition Project to Begin Monday

Mayor Leighton announced that emergency demolition of condemned buildings located in the block of 61-75 South Main Street is scheduled to begin on Monday, November 11, 2013

Mayor Leighton announced that emergency demolition of condemned buildings located in the block of 61-75 South Main Street is scheduled to begin on Monday, November 11, 2013. Properties excluded from this project are 63 and 67 South Main Street, which have been determined to be structurally safe.
 
Plains contractor, Stell Enterprises Inc., submitted the lowest bid amount at $194,861.50 and was awarded the demolition contract this afternoon.
 
Stell Enterprises, Inc. will begin pre-demolition activities tomorrow, November 9th.  East Northampton Street will be reduced to one lane allowing for one way traffic only between the Wilkes-Barre YMCA and South Main Street. Detours will be in place tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Drivers should expect delays when traveling through this area.
