Wilkes-Barre High Schools To Stay Open

Students and staff at two crumbling Wilkes-Barre high schools will be able to return to school this fall.
Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County -- Students and staff at two crumbling Wilkes-Barre high schools will be able to return to school this fall.

Monday night the school district announced class will be in session at Meyers and Coughlin High Schools, despite the structural problems at both buildings.

The school board approved a contract that would secure the facade and boiler room at Meyers High School.

Over at Coughlin High School, crews will fix an inner wall structure.

Engineers will then evaluate the renovations and decide what to do next.

The superintendent said taking down the fences and caution tape will help the students feel more at home.
