The Schuylkill County Fair wraps up on Saturday, August 2rd-  Schuylkill County Fair has been rooted in the community for 31 years
 
*Life is a Cabaret! Phoenix Theatrics presents:  “Cabaret”:   August 2-. 3-  Saturday show at 8:00pm and Sunday Matinee at 2:00pm. Tickets $12.00- at Phoenix Performing Arts Centre, 409 Main Street, Duryea  Call 570-457-3589 from reservations.
 
*Live Free Ride Alive (LFRA), PennDOT’ s comprehensive motorcycle safety program aimed at reducing the number of motorcycle crashes and fatalities on Pennsylvania roadways through education and interaction among riders, will sponsor a booth at the Pocono Raceway Aug. 1-3.
 
 
 
 Saturday, August 2, 2014
 
*Dallas Baptist Church will host an "Hour of Payer" for our nation and those serving in the U.S. Armed Forces on August 2, 2014, at 6 p.m. This community event will be held under a tent at the Dallas Baptist Church located at 3 Briarcrest, Hwy 415 and Briarcrest, Dallas, PA 18612, and all are welcome to attend. Guests are encouraged to bring names, photos, and other memorabilia of those currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces for prayer. This is a free event that is non-denominational in which all are welcome to attend.
 
*Montrose Blueberry Festival continues on Saturday, August 2-
    The menu is full of blueberries everything  from pies, to ice cream, and even blueberry pizza. There is also entertainment and games.
  All funds from the event go to the Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library Association.  The Blueberry Festival continues Saturday, August 2 from 9 to 4
 
*Shickshinny Forward, a non-profit organization designed to help revitalize the town of Shickshinny after the floods of 2011 is hosting its 3rd Annual Car Show and Party in the Park on August 2nd to help raise funds to help rebuild and revitalize the area. The show is Saturday, August 2nd from 12pm to 3pm in Shickshinny in the park off of Route 11 Along the Susquehanna Warrior Trail at North Susquehanna Avenue, Shickshinny  (behind Curry Doughnuts).
 
* Downtown Bloomsburg will host its Summer ArtFest on Saturday, August 2, from 10:00am - 5:00pm. ArtFest is a free arts festival to showcase exceptional area artists exhibiting under tents on Center Street at Main. Come celebrate the dog days of summer with live music, food from local restaurants, creative activities for kids and adults, and fantastic art, all in an intimate outdoor setting at the center of Bloomsburg!
 
*An event to benefit Levi Setzer who lost both of his parents due to a tragic accident will be held Sunday August 3rd.  Stop by 1-6pm at the Noxen Fire/Ambulance grounds.  All proceeds go to the care of Levi.
 
 
 *Cross Valley Federal Credit Union  will hold its annual Youth Day at the Credit Union Offices on  640 Baltimore Drive in Wilkes-Barre. Children and their families can spend the afternoon playing games, eating great food, enjoying pony rides, face-painting and much more all while gaining valuable information from local community organizations as well as financial literacy.  this event is free and open to the public; rain or shine.
 
 
*Ninth Annual Holy Cross Crusader Pigskin Open Golf Tournament to be held August 2, 2014 at Scranton Municipal Golf Course, Mt Cobb. Captain & Crew format, $90 per player includes lunch, dinner, 18 holes with cart, gift bags, & prizes.  12:30 registration with 1:30 shotgun startChecks payable to HCFPA. Benefits Holy Cross High School Football Program.
 
**Free Pig Roast! Saturday, August 2 in Selinsgrove- at the Rotary Field across from the high school from 11 am to 7 pm.  The day will feature plenty of food and fun for everyone.  The Christ’s Outreach of Love Ministry is hosting the event
 
 
Sunday, August 3, 2014
 
*The Uptown Music Collective will present its annual free Summer Music Festival on Sunday, August 3rd at Williamsport’s Brandon Park Band Shell. The day’s festivities will begin at 1:00pm with free music clinics from some of the area’s foremost musicians and free music performances all day, as well as children’s activities and food vendors. The event will culminate with an exclusive, one time only performance, entitled “1967: The Summer of Love” performed by some of the Collective’s top students.
 
*Abi Reilley, a Marley's Mission Jr. Ambassador is hosting the second annual car wash fundraiser
to Benefit Marley's Mission.  The Car Wash will be held on Sunday, August 3rd from Noon-3pm at  Crestwood High School.  Marley’s Mission is an equine therapy for youngsters.  Marley’s Mission http://www.marleysmission.com/
 
*Safe Haven Pet Rescue will hold adoption days from 11 a.m. To 3 p.m. On Sunday, August 3, at Tractor Supply, Route 940, Mt. Pocono, and Sunday, August 17 at Tractor Supply on Route 209. Brodheadsville.
Safe Haven will have many young dogs available for you to meet and get to know. Safe Haven requires a pre-adoption application with references and a home visit prior to adoption
 
*Restored Church in Wilkes-Barre will hold a Sunday morning service at the Martz Pavillion at Kirby Park on Sunday, August 3rd, at 10:30 a.m.
 
*Roller Radicals , Wilkes-Barre Roller Derby Team will host a benefit match for Ruth’s Place Women’s Shelter.  The game will be held on Sunday, August 3rd  at Skateway in Wilkes-Barre.  Proceeds from a basket raffle along with 2-dollars from every admission ticket will go to Ruth’s Place. Doors open for the event at 5:30 and the match will get underway at 6:00.

*"Collective Pop," on display at The Gallery at Penn College through Aug. 24, features works created by internationally renowned 3-D pop artist Charles Fazzino and area students. The exhibit celebrates the 75th anniversary of Little League Baseball. The Gallery at Penn College is on the third floor of the Madigan Library. The gallery’s summer exhibit hours are Tuesdays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays, 1 to 4 p.m. (closed Saturdays and Mondays). Regular hours resume on Aug. 1: Sundays, 1 to 4 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2 to 7 p.m.; and Wednesdays and Fridays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Saturdays and Mondays).  Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public
 
*The 41st season of the Wilkes-Barre Farmers  held every Thursday through November 20th, will bring together many community groups through special programming and events.
 
* The free Wheelchair Engineers program at the Columbia Mall near
Bloomsburg, with its handicapped-accessible model train layouts, will
be open from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and every Saturday at the Sears 
end of the mall. 
 
 The Bloomsburg University Archives’ latest exhibit, Treasures from the Archives Featuring Bloomsburg University, 1983-2014, contains many items, including photographs and artifacts, evoking the university’s progress since the July 1, 1983, establishment of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The exhibit will be on display, free of charge, through Sept. 12 in Andruss Library, third floor.
 
* The Luzerne County Historical Society currently has twenty historic quilts on display at their Museum at 69 South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre. The quilts, from the Society’s collections, include many patterns, types and sizes from the nineteenth and early twentieth century. These handmade quilts have been collected by the Society over the years.

Also on display is the exhibit She Rolled Up Her Sleeves: Luzerne County’s Women at Work which focuses on the unsung heroines of our history—the women who worked hard but never get any credit. Located at 69 South Franklin Street (behind the Osterhout Library) the Museum is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 2:00 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $4.00 for adults, $2.00 for children, and free for Historical Society members. Both exhibits will remain on display through August 31, 2014.
 
 
 
 
*The Downtown Shenandoah Open Air Farm Market is in full swing from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Fridays through November. Regional farmers and growers set up shop along the east side of the first block of South Main Street and the south side of the first block of East Centre Street near the more than century-old Bolich & Burke building.
They offer fruits, vegetables, various plants/flowers and other fare.
The event, the oldest of its kind in the region, is sponsored by the Greater Shenandoah Area Chamber of Commerce.

*Dunkin’ Donuts and the American Red Cross will kick-off a month long campaign to encourage summer blood donations with a blood drive at the Dunkin’ Donuts located at 1020 Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard in Wilkes-Barre from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30pm on Monday, August 4th. 
 
 
*The Rooftop Party is back, but with a new name and a new location! The Brewsterhout Patio Party will be Friday, August 8th, from 5-8 PM on the patio at the Osterhout Free Library, 71 S. Franklin St. in Downtown Wilkes-Barre, as well as inside the library.  The party is an over-21 event that will feature beer and wine, entertainment by DJ Ryan Kenton and food generously donated by over 20 local restaurants. The event is rain-or-shine with parking available in the Boscov’s lot. Over 400 guests are expected to attend.  Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door or can be purchased online via the Brewsterhout Facebook page. Price includes food, beverages and entertainment. 
 
 
 
*The Lackawanna County Commissioners join Scranton Tomorrow, City of Scranton and PNC Foundation representatives to promote Scranton Tomorrow’s Drive-In Downtown Movies Series.  The outdoor program, held on Lackawanna County Courthouse Square, has already featured “Frozen” and Despicable Me 2” and will continue on August 7, August 21 and September 4, which is college night.  Prior to the start of the movies, children’s activities are offered by the Lackawanna County Library System, Little Hands Big Art and Drawn to Art Studio at 8 p.m.  The
 
*The First Methodist Church of Tamaqua is hosting a CPR certification class Aug. 9 beginning at 8 a.m. To register, contact the Rev. Susan Daniels at 570-668-3344. There is a fee to cover the cost of training material.
 
*  The Cornstock Folk Festival  2014 three-day event with lineup to include eighteen musical acts!  The festival takes place August 29-31 at Lazy Brook Park in Tunkhannock. Festival goers will be treated to a diverse roster of music to include folk, swing, Celtic, bluegrass, jazz, Appalachian, singer-songwriter, reggae, and Americana acoustic rock.

* The group Shenandoah Community Watch will sponsor a four-day outdoor carnival from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 20-23 at Bicentennial Park along Herald Road in the borough’s southeast section.
 
* The Paupack United Methodist Women's first Annual SUMMER FAIR will be held Saturday, August 9. The event will run from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM at the Paupack United Methodist Church located on Route 507 in Paupack, PA, 18451.  The Paupack UMW SUMMER FAIR will include a Crafter's area and the annual Flea Market  This year will include a Chicken Barbeque Picnic Lunch with eat-in / take-out available. There will be home baked goods for sale, games for children, and a supervised Play Area for very young children will be provided.
 
*Safe Haven Dog Rescue will be participating in the HJP Flea Market Fundraiser on Saturday, August 23 from 9 AM to 4 PM, at TLC Park at the intersection of Rt 611 and Rt 715, in Tannersville.
All proceeds of the Flea Market will benefit the HJP Regional Dog Park, planned on Golden Slipper Road in Bartonsville. Special features include: Hot Dawg Cafe, Basket Raffle, and Pet First Aid Kits and T-Shirts.
Safe Haven Pet Rescue is a small group of dedicated volunteers from the West End of the Poconos who save highly adoptable dogs from high kill and overcrowded shelters and finds them loving homes.
 
*The Wyoming Seminary Performing Arts Institute will present the new Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “In The Heights” at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7 and Friday, August 8 at the F.M Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre. The production is a high-energy, colorful story of romance, dreams and dance that features a live orchestra. Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, available in advance and at the door. For more information call 570-270-2186.
 
*Wally Lake Fest, proudly presented by the Downtown Hawley Partnership, is embarking on its milestone FIFTH YEAR August 22 – 24, 2014.
 
 
*On Wednesday, August 13th, The Crackers will be hosting an acoustic-style Open Mic Night at The Cooperage Project, located at 1030 Main Street in Honesdale for Open Mic Night  from 7:00 to 10:00pm.
 
If you like to sing, play an instrument, or just plain like listening to good music, then Open Mic Night at The Cooperage Project is the place to be!  It’s is a fun evening for musicians and listeners alike. The board fills up quickly, so come early to sign-up! This is a donation based event and contributions are appreciated.
 
 * St. Matthews U.C.C. Church in Kunkletown will hold its 125 Annual Picnic on Saturday, August 16 (rain date, August 17) at the church grove, located on Grove Road.  Food will be available beginning at 3:00pm with festivities starting at 3:30pm.  For children there will be Games, a Kiddie Cake Walk, and a Fish Pond.  Adults can participate in a Pie Contest and a Horseshoe Contest.  For all ages there will also be a Chinese Auction and a Cakewalk at 6:30pm.  This year's picnic-goers will be entertained by the Hawks.  So whether it is for the homemade food, games, ice cream, or entertainment, pack lawn chairs and your family and have a fun-filled Saturday afternoon/evening at our great Kunkletown Church Picnic.
 
*  The Sanctuary, 172 N. Wyoming St., Hazleton has a full line up of entertainment beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17.  There will be music, independent professional wrestling, a meet-and-greet with a former World Boxing Association heavyweight champion, a concert and wrapping up the night, an opportunity to watch WWE’s Summer Slam on a 10 by 20-foot screen.

*St. John Vianney parish will host its annual Red Cross blood drive on Thursday, August 28 from 1-6 p.m. at Corpus Christi Church, Montdale. Please consider donating blood to support the Red Cross and Give the Gift of Life. Corpus Christi Church is located on Route 438 in Montdale; to reach the church from I-81 take exit 201 then follow Rt 438 East for 4 miles, the church is on the right. *SS. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Olyphant, PA will be sponsoring its 4th Annual "Rummage Sale". One of the biggest Church Rummage Sales in the area,  It is being held at the The American Legion Hall, Raymond Henry Post #327, 101 Willow Ave./Lackawanna Ave.
