UPDATE: Residents Evacuated after Nursing Home Fire

Staff at a nursing home in Luzerne County are looking for help housing their residents after an early morning fire.

UPDATE: Nanticoke, Luzerne County- A crew is working through the night, Tuesday, to get the facility back open to residents.  A spokesperson for Mac's Restoration says they hope to have people moving back in Wednesday.  In the meantime. the residents are sleeping on cots provided by the American Red Cross at Nanticoke Area High School.

Nanticoke, Luzerne County - Staff at a nursing home in Luzerne County are looking for help housing their residents after an early morning fire.

Fourty-seven people living in Nanticoke Villa on Walnut Street in Nanticoke were evacuated because of a fire around 2 a.m. Flames started in a second floor apartment. Most of the residents were taken to the Greater Nanticoke Area High School, the rest are staying with family.

There were no reports of any injuries and firefighters say the evacuation process went well, despite the amount of people being moved.

It may be awhile before residents can return to the building. Staff at Nanticoke Villa is hopes other area nursing homes can temporarily take in their residents. If you can help call Kathy Pisano at 570-466-0678.
