The 1st Annual Paint the Mountain Pink is a Success

The 1st Annual Paint the Mountain Pink event raises more than $2,000 for the Hope for Strength Breast Cancer Fund.
“Pink is the color of hope and that’s exactly what the raised dollars are being used for,” states Staci Ann Beers, co-founder of the Pocono Health Foundations’ Hope for Strength Breast Cancer Fund. The Fund was created by her and her mother, Carole’ Ann F. Bowyer, after Beers’ 2011 diagnosis.  Beers added, “It’s no longer a death sentence when you get diagnosed.  There are so many new drugs and treatment plans that are now available and it’s our responsibility to educate the public as such.”

The first 200 lift ticket purchasers received a free pink headband, compliments of Shawnee Mountain. The Guardians of the Ribbon’s Slate Belt chapter brought “Margaret” the pink fire truck and the “Share the Love” Subaru sponsored by Ertle Cars, welcomed visitors to sign the names and write messages for cancer victims and survivors.

Although Beers no longer lives in the Poconos, she grew up here and wanted to help breast cancer patients in the community.  She held one of her first jobs at Shawnee Mountain so it seemed like a perfect fit. Bowyer helps to organize awareness events where all proceeds benefit the Fund. “We are very appreciative to Shawnee Mountain for their generous support; also to the volunteers, friends and family that stopped by to help.  We met so many skiers who wanted to share their personal stories while supporting the Fund,” states Bowyer.

The purpose of the Fund is to minimize the financial and emotional impact of breast cancer diagnoses and treatment.  The Hope for Strength Breast Cancer Fund will provide up to $500 to both male and female breast cancer patients of the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center for basic living expenses.
