Teenager Killed In Crash Was A Popular Football Player

17-year-old Antonio Rios was getting ready for his Senior Year at Williams Valley High School in Tower City. Rios was killed on Sunday during a car crash. Friends say he player on the football team and was well liked in town.
Porter Township, Schuylkill County -  There's a memorial that sits on State Route 209 in Porter Township, Schuylkill County.

It's there for 17-year-old Antonio Rios who was killed in a car crash there early Sunday morning.

"He was a very, very happy kid," Cole Barnhardt, who was a friend of Rios, said. "He always smiled. He was very kindhearted. He cared about everybody."

Barnhardt used to play football with Rios at Williams Valley High School. He said everyone knew Rios as Tony.

"He had so much enthusiasm about hitting someone," Barnhardt remembered. "Getting a tackle he would be screaming."

Barnhardt told Eyewitness News that Rios was leaving a graduation party with a friend when he crashed.

State police said Rios lost control on a curve about a half-mile north from his home on Keystone Road. The car, a 2008 Chevy Cobalt, ended up flipping and slamming into a tree.

Rios died at the scene, his 17-year-old passenger was flown to a trauma center.
  
Barnhardt said Rios was full of life.

"He loved being around people," Barnhard said. "He hated sitting inside. He always wanted to do something."

Rios was getting ready for his senior year at Williams Valley High School in Williams Township where he played football and wrestled.

Joe Murray played basketball with Rios on Saturday. He said his friend was well known in town.

"He was very outgoing, very cheerful," he said. "Even for the basketball games he would sit in the stands and cheer with the students."

Now that Rios is gone friends just wish they had one more day with the kid they knew as "Tony".

"He was always happy," Murray said. "He was just a great kid all around!"

Police said the teenagers were wearing a seat belt at the time of wreck.

There's no word on the cause of the crash, or the other teenager involved in the wreck.
