Snow Removal Laws

Leaving your sidewalk un-shoveled can get you in trouble with your municipality and leave you facing some pretty big fines.
Luzerne County - Leaving your sidewalk un-shoveled can get you in trouble with your municipality and leave you facing some pretty big fines.  Code Enforcement Officer Joe Perugino has been trying to keep the sidewalks safe in Kingston for 5 years.  He says besides facing a fine of up to $200, people who skip the shoveling could also face a lawsuit.  "Generally, if a snowfall of an inch or greater occurs and the snowfall ends at let's say midnight, you have 24 hours from that time to have the snow removed from your sidewalks," says Perugino.  Businesses have a higher duty to keep their property clear, but ultimately you are responsible if someone gets hurt on your sidewalk.
