Emergency Sewer Work Closes Kingston Street

If you're driving in Luzerne County, be prepared for traffic delays thanks to a two day road closure in Kingston.
Kingston, Luzerne County- Emergency sewer line repairs on Pierce Street in Kingston mean the road will be shut down for two days between Wyoming and Rutter Avenues.

A faulty sewer line on Pierce Street caused a road subsidence. The hole was sinking and the area could have been a danger to drivers. In order to fix it, no traffic can travel on Rutter Avenue from the Cross Valley Expressway.

Truckers traveling from Wilkes-Barre crossing over the bridge at Pierce Street can't drive past Third Avenue. Tom Seibert lives on nearby Rutter Avenue. He says it is a small price to pay for safety. "I really don't have a problem with the traffic detour for a few days and I don't think many of the other neighbors do. We're here 40 years so I'm kind of used to everything, but its positive and I'm glad everyone got together on this so we can make it safe," he said.

"It's important because its a matter of public safety in the event that this hole was to open up any further and cause a big problem," said Adam Gober, Director of Public Works for Kingston.
