For the second time this school year, a sports team in Old Forge is looking to make a run at a state title.

The Old Forge Lady Blue Devils boarded a bus headed for Hershey late Friday afternoon.

More than 100 people, including fellow students and parents gathered outside the Old Forge High School to see the team off.

With the roar of fire engines and police siren, the team then took off.

"To come from such a small town and know everyone is behind us, it's just amazing," Rhyan Barnic said.

As they boarded the bus for Saturday's game, the Class A Championship game, it will be the last one for the graduating seniors.

They want to go out on top.

"I've grown up with these girls my entire life and I wouldn't want to spend this moment with anyone else," Taylor Nemetz said. "They're my best friends. They're my sisters. We're one big family."

With both excitement and nervousness, the girls got in one final practice Friday afternoon.

The team takes on Vincention Academy at noon at Hershey's Giant Center.

"It's definitely going to be a challenge but we're always up for one," Teri Vieira said. "We just have to crash the boards, play good defense and we'll be good."

"For the school, the town, it's really the people are enjoying it. The kids are enjoying it," Coach Tom Gatto said.

After the boy's football program lost the state title game in heartbreaking fashion, the girls hope to bring home the title.

"We made the most of the season and obviously you have a little bit of nerves but we're going to turn it into adrenaline so hopefully we'll come out on top," Barnic said.

"It's really exciting. Everybody asks all day, are you excited, are you excited? I couldn't wipe the smile off my face all day," Nemetz said.

The Old Forge Lady Blue Devils are 24-3. Vincentian Academy is 26-3 going into Saturday's game.

Eyewitness Sports will have complete coverage on Saturday.
