Smithfield Township, Monroe County – The new Smithfields Library in Smithfield Township is now open. Assistant Lourene Edwards beamed, “[I] Love the new digs. It's great, a lot more space and everyone that's coming in is loving it." She’s happy to finally have a work space where she can move around. She said, "The old place, I can say was like a mouse house. This one is very big, four times the size and it's great. We love it."
While the old place in the Foxmoor Village shopping center was packed with books from floor to ceiling, the new library building was built with room to expand. Branch Librarian Sue Young said, "We're adding more books and collections."
Young is excited to finally have a community events room. She smiled, "We'll be able to do our summer reading there and have our programs right in the library rather than off-site."
The new building has many more computers than the old place and it has a reading room just for kids. "Kids are so happy when they walk in. They go in and their eyes open with amazement,” said Edwards.
Everyone is invited to the library’s grand opening celebration May 17th at 11 a.m. The building is on Route 209 off of the Marshalls Creek exit of I80.
