Mount Pocono, Monroe County – One-hundred families will be able to put special Easter dinners on their tables thanks to some good-hearted volunteers in the Poconos.
Mary of Tobyhanna Township said she couldn’t get by without the volunteers from the Feeding Families Ministry in Mount Pocono. She said, "The money you have doesn't quite make it to the end of the month and yet you make too much to get help from the government or some other feeding pantries."
Diane McFadzean started the Christian ministry about four years ago. She said, "I basically started giving food out of the back of my car and it has grown to this." Now the organization helps about 100 families each week. Volunteer Kathy Pianoforte smiled, "We're getting bigger and bigger and bigger and better and better."
Busineses donate food while volunteers donate their time. "We like to have them feel comfortable not to feel ashamed that they are in need,” said Pianoforte. They wanted to make sure all families in this region could have a nice Easter dinner. Theresa of Tobyhanna said, "I think it's a blessing. I think it's a great thing."
The filled bags with Turkey, potatoes, bread, eggs, and more. They also had Easter baskets for kids. Pianoforte smiled, "I love nothing better than giving somebody a bag of food and they thank you and say we're glad you're here for us."
