Leadership Lackawanna to host Foster-A-Pet Family Fun Day at South Abington Park for Griffin Pond Animal Shelter
Foster- A-Pet Family Fun Day at South Abington Park, located on Northern Boulevard in Chinchilla, benefiting the Foster-A-Pet Program on May 25, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Leadership Lackawanna in association with Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Rd., South Abington Township, will hold a Foster- A-Pet Family Fun Day at South Abington Park, located on Northern Boulevard in Chinchilla, benefiting the Foster-A-Pet Program on May 25, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This event is generously being sponsored by Gertrude Hawk Chocolates and Toyota Scion of Scranton.

Admission is free for all ages and is open to both families and their pets. The event will consist of local vendors, pony rides, face painting, a bounce house, food and fun!  Pet massages, nail clippings, organic pet treats and pet pictures will also be available. Discounted rabies vaccines will be administered by Dr. Lagana from Abington Veterinary Center for $10.00.

Griffin Pond Animal Shelter launched a foster program in early 2012.  The shelter cares for nearly 6,000 animals a year, so the foster program is a necessary means of specialized care for sick, injured, newborn/nursing animals or animals with behavioral issues. The foster program is a key component in reducing the number of animals facing euthanasia at the shelter, through dedicated care from fosters and by making space available for other animals while keeping more animals off the streets of our community.

In the Leadership Lackawanna 10-month Core Program, participants gain relevant skills and enhanced understandings of the issues and topics relevant to the greater Scranton area.  Class members also participate in group projects benefiting local nonprofit organizations.  Established in 1982, Leadership Lackawanna’s three programs - teen, core and executive leadership – have graduated more than 1,400 community leaders.  For more information, visit
