NASCAR legend Richard Petty was in Mountain Top Friday at the Weis Supermarket helping deliver a tractor trailer load of meat to the needy of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Petty teamed up with Smithfield Foods and Weis Supermarkets to donate the food to the Weinberg Food Bank which serves people in four counties including Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wyoming and Susquehanna. Petty said, "The Petty family has been successful in our endeavors and we try to give back. One never knows if someone on your own block might be having a struggle to put food on their table to feed their families." Gretchen Hunt from the Weinberg Food Bank added, "The fact that we are talking about this today is getting the word out that it is a struggle for so many families in our area." Ken Lada from Mountain Top was one of dozens of people who came to see Petty and said, "We know this is a fun event but the most important thing is helping get food into the food bank."
