Keeping Cool In Schuylkill County

July 1st was one of the warmest days of the year. Eyewitness News stopped by a few places in Schuylkill County to see how people were staying cool.
Pottsville, Schuylkill County - Cheyenne Murphy, a Pottsville resident, didn't mind jumping off the diving board into the pool in Pottsville a couple extra times Tuesday afternoon.

"The water is cold and you get used to the water," she said.

Murphy was one of a handful of people at the John F Kennedy pool in Pottsville Tuesday trying to cool off during the hot afternoon.
Lori Fick, who lives in Pine Grove, brought her two grandchildren to the pool. When she wasn't relaxing on the side she made sure to take a dip to cool down.

"It would be nice to have something like this at my own house," Fick said about the pool. "But we can't afford that so this where we are."

Floaties were optional, but needed for some of the younger pool patrons who were looking to stay cool.

In nearby Minersville Eyewitness News caught up with some people who turned to an icy cold treat instead.

"I switched it up today I normally get cheesecake," Hannah Rinaldo, a Minersville resident, said.

Rinaldo was making her second stop of the day at the Ice Cream Caboose when Eyewitness News caught up with her. She brought Ian Kostyal, who she was baby-sitting.

Koystal got a cone of vanilla ice cream. He said on a hot day there's only one better way to cool off in Schuylkill County.

"Swimming," he said in between licks of his ice cream cone.
Back at the pool Cheyenne's brother, John, said if you weren't not in the water Tuesday you definitely missed out.

"Today's awesome," he said.
