On Saturday, April 19th, The Cooperage Project is proud to welcome back to the stage The Kazzrie Jaxen Quartet. Honoring jazz tradition with straight-ahead swing and pushing jazz boundaries with bold improvisation, the Kazzrie Jaxen Quartet strives to express the beauty of a simple melodic line. Among other giants of the genre, the group derives inspiration from jazz greats Lennie Tristano and Sal Mosca, as well as Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, Bud Powell, Warne Marsh. The quartet's repertory includes standard tunes, jazz lines, original compositions, and occasional excursions into the abstract. The ensemble’s unusual harmonic approach stretches the music in refreshingly unexpected, but always tasteful and intrinsic directions.

The Kazzrie Jaxen Quartet is a true ‘quaternity’, bringing together into a unified whole the personal predilections of its four accomplished members: the buoyant, lighter-than-air swing of Bill Chattin’s drums; the earthy, honeyed pulsations of Don Messina’s bass; the remarkable depth and richness of Charley Krachy’s tenor; and the playful daring of Kazzrie Jaxen’s piano.

Kazzrie and friends first brought their inspired music-making to The Cooperage last year.

“We’re thrilled to have them back.” said Doni Hoffman, executive director of The Cooperage Project. “It’s going to be a memorable occasion. We hope you’ll join us!”

This evening will also serve as a celebration of their newly released CD, the Callicoon Sessions.

The performance begins at 7:30pm with doors opening at 7:00pm. Donations will be collected at the door. Lite fare will be available for purchase from The Willow River Cafe and Gallery. Please note that this is not a BYOB event. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available through a cash bar by the Hotel Wayne.

The Cooperage is operated by the The Cooperage Project, is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization that seeks to build community through performance, learning and good times. For more information visit www.thecooperageproject.org or call 570.253.2020.
